Hawaiian Telcom Presents Cash Prizes to Keiki Art Contest Winners One Hundred Students Art Pieces Will be Featured in The New Yellow Pages

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Telcom Directories presented cash prizes June 4 to the winners of its Keiki Art Contest, which drew entries from more than 1,600 public and private school students on Oahu. The winning artwork will be among 100 entries featured in the official 2006-2007 Oahu yellow page directory distributed to more than 1 million homes and businesses in October.
Hawaiian Telcom Directories’ Keiki Art Contest, launched the beginning of April, was open to all public and private Oahu school students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students were asked to portray the contest theme, “The Meaning of ‘Ohana,” by drawing or painting their favorite family activity or depicting what family means to them.

Prizes were awarded in four categories — kindergarten to second grade, third to fifth, sixth to eighth, and ninth to 12th — with first-place winners receiving $100; second place $75; and third place $50. In addition, each school with a first-place winner received $400.

The 100 keiki art entries to appear in the Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages will also be posted on www.HTYellowPages.com.

Another highlight of the contest was a grand prize drawing open to all entrants for a weekend getaway for a family of four to Maui sponsored by ResortQuest® Hawaii and Island Air. As the winner, Raquel Palisbo of Highlands Intermediate School and three family members will enjoy two nights in a two-bedroom Garden View Suite at the ResortQuest at Papakea Resort.

Hawaiian Telcom Directories kicked off what has become its annual Keiki Art Contest last year on Oahu in celebration of the return of local operations and management of Hawaii’s telephone company. Since then the company has sponsored contests for students in Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui counties. This year, contests for Neighbor-Island school students will start in August. Through its Keiki Art Contests, Hawaiian Telcom Directories has recognized 250 students’ artwork and presented more than $12,000 to winning students and their schools.

The 2006-2007 Hawaiian Telcom Oahu directories will also feature winning artwork submitted by University of Hawaii students, faculty and staff throughout the state in celebration of the university’s 100th anniversary in 2007.

As a new twist on the tradition of featuring the work of local artists on its covers, Hawaiian Telcom will showcase artwork on six Oahu directories: White Pages, Yellow Pages, Leeward, Windward, East Oahu, and the new Companion directory. Winning art will also appear on the combined white- and yellow-page directories for Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui counties.  Each directory will dedicate pages inside to the cover artist as well as provide information on the University of Hawaii’s
centennial.
